Overview
The short version
Plain EnglishTypeRush is a local-first typing speed test app. Your game data stays on your device. We do not collect, sell, or share your personal information. There are no ads, no analytics SDKs phoning home, and no accounts required.
This Privacy Policy explains how TypeRush ("we", "our", or "the app") handles your information when you use our Android application. By using TypeRush, you agree to this policy.
01 · Data
What we collect — and what we don't
TypeRush stores the following data locally on your device only, using Android's SharedPreferences storage:
| Data | Purpose | Stored where |
|---|---|---|
| Game results (WPM, accuracy, grade, passage, timestamp) | Show your stats, history, and streak | Your device only |
| App preferences (dark mode, difficulty, haptic toggle) | Remember your settings between sessions | Your device only |
| First-launch flag | Show onboarding only once | Your device only |
| Notification permission status | Daily reminder (if you enable it) | Android system |
We do not collect:
- Your name, email address, or any account information
- Your location or device identifiers
- The text you type during a game session
- Crash reports or analytics events
- Any data that leaves your device
02 · Permissions
Why we ask for permissions
TypeRush requests the following Android permissions:
| Permission | Why it's needed | Required? |
|---|---|---|
POST_NOTIFICATIONS |
Send optional daily typing reminders to maintain your streak | No — opt-in only |
SCHEDULE_EXACT_ALARM |
Fire reminders at a precise time if you enable daily reminders | No — opt-in only |
RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED |
Re-register scheduled reminders after a device restart | No — only active if reminders are enabled |
VIBRATE |
Haptic feedback on incorrect keystrokes during a game | No — can be turned off in Settings |
None of these permissions give us access to your personal data. You can revoke any permission at any time through your device's system settings.
03 · Sharing
We don't share your data
TypeRush has no servers, no backend, and no third-party SDKs that transmit your information anywhere. Your game history lives entirely on your device.
When you use the Share Score feature on the results screen, your score is passed to Android's native share sheet. You choose who to share it with — we never see it. The share message contains only your WPM, accuracy, and grade.
04 · Storage
Your data, your control
All game data is stored using Android's SharedPreferences. You can delete it at any time:
- In-app: Settings → Clear game history removes all saved sessions
- System-level: Settings → Apps → TypeRush → Clear Data wipes everything, including preferences
- Uninstalling the app removes all local data permanently
No account = no recoveryBecause data is stored only on your device, clearing history or uninstalling is permanent. There is no cloud backup and no way for us to retrieve it.
05 · Children
Use by children
TypeRush does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under the age of 13. The app collects no personal data whatsoever, making it safe for use by people of all ages. If you are a parent or guardian with concerns, please contact us using the details below.
06 · Changes
Updates to this policy
If we make material changes to this Privacy Policy, we will update the "Effective" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you through the app. Continued use of TypeRush after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
Because we collect no personal data, changes to this policy are unlikely to affect your privacy in practice.
